Tomcat 3.0 Preliminary Documentation
Release B - August 16, 1991
NEW TOMCAT SYSOPS
-----------------
If you have never run Tomcat before, you can go ahead and use this
version, however you may be better off to wait for the full release
(with full documentation) before installing Tomcat for the first time.
INSTALLING TOMCAT
-----------------
1. Place TOMCAT.EXE and TOMCAT.OVR in the same directory as the rest of
your Wildcat executable files. This directory should be pathed, but
it doesn't need to be.
2. Place TOMCAT.CFG, TCTEXT.DAT, and MAIL.BAT in your Wildcat home
directory (C:\WC30 or whatever).
3. If you have a TOMCAT.ID (the registration file), place this file
in your Wildcat home directory too.
4. Edit the TOMCAT.CFG file using a text editor. The options in this
file are:
ID - The name for your QWK packets. This is a valid
DOS filename with no spaces, and should be a short
form of your BBS name.
Example: ID = PLYWOOD
CITY - This is your city, just for inclusion in the QWK
packet.
Example: CITY = Victoria, BC
PHONE - This is your BBS phone number, again just for
inclusion in the QWK packet.
Example: PHONE = (604) 598-1546
Note that if you have "Terminate on DOORS and MENU Hooks" set to Yes,
then you must add the statement
CAT
to the end of MAIL.BAT (to restart Wildcat). In any case, you should
make sure that MAIL.BAT executes TOMCAT.EXE properly.
Note that Tomcat need not (and, if you are using the Autonode feature,
should not) be executed from the Wildcat home directory. Due to the
way Autonode works, Tomcat must be executed from the node work
directory and therefore MAIL.BAT cannot contain any "CD" statements
that change the directory.
NETWORK OPERATION
-----------------
If you are currently using the "netsec" option of Tomcat 2.x, a similar
function is included in Tomcat 3. If a security level is named
NETSYSOP, then the "netsec" operation is enabled for callers of that
security level. Future versions of Tomcat will allow you to enable
"netsec" operation for security levels other than just NETSYSOP.
ORDERING INFORMATION
--------------------
Please refer to ORDRFORM.DOC for information regarding Tomcat
registration. You may also register with a credit card by telephone at
(604) 598-2141, BBS at (604) 598-1546, or FAX at (604) 598-4318.
PROBLEM REPORTS
---------------
If you have a problem with Tomcat that you cannot solve, give us a call
or leave a message on the BBS and we will try to help you solve the
problem. This program may be updated several times before a complete
version is finished.
